365 Things To Do In Orangeville Ontario

Well here's my next project.....that's right another one, as if I need to have something else to do during my day.

For all of you that are new to Orangeville, moving to Orangeville? Or just been around awhile and feel like you need to try something new? You've come to the right place.

 Each day I'll post something that can be done in Orangeville, Ontario (& surrounding towns) from walking trails, restaurants and everything in between. I will be doing all this by shooting VIDEO when I'm there and photos to boot.

What Is The Educational Benefit Of High School

I just finished reading Seth Godin's blog which I do everyday and this one struck me right in the face.

We as parents send out kids to high school hoping that they will graduate with the skills to allow them to take the next step in life....but what's the next step?  Every student is different and learns at a different rate and in different ways..This is my hope for the current and future generations.  The text in bold means something to me.  Enjoy

Perhaps we could endeavor to teach our future the following:

• How to focus intently on a problem until it's solved.
• The benefit of postponing short-term satisfaction in exchange for long-term success.
• How to read critically.
• The power of being able to lead groups of peers without receiving clear delegated authority.
• An understanding of the extraordinary power of the scientific method, in just about any situation or endeavor.
• How to persuasively present ideas in multiple forms, especially in writing and before a group.
• Project management. Self-management and the management of ideas, projects and people.
• Personal finance. Understanding the truth about money and debt and leverage.

REBarCamp, What is it?

What a great day in Toronto!  I attended
a small un-conference of only 315 Realtors.  The tickets sold out in about a few  days so I was lucky enough to get one.

So what is REBarCamp?

BarCamp is an ad-hoc gathering born from the desire for people to share and learn in an open environment. It is an intense event with discussions, demos and interaction between the person running the session and from participants in the room. Each session is different and ANYone can start session and any topic. 

I'm so looking forward to next years REBarCamp!  I shared so much and recieved evenmore...Thanks everyone for a great day!

 

 

So the Quarry is Federal Issue After ALL

I find this very outrageous that our Dufferin MP didn't do anything....hmmm it make me think about why he's even in this position...

 

Here is the objection letter to the application for an aggregate resource license for the Melancthon Mega Mine (M3) filed by the Council of Canadians with the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Highland Companies.

I would like you to specifically pay attention where it states:
"Because the construction company is backed by the Baupost Group, a Boston‐based multi‐billion dollar hedge fund, it likely has NAFTA rights to sue the Canadian government if at any time after the contract has been signed, any level of government changes its mind on the project or attempts to limit damage to the land and water of the area by imposing new restrictions on the company’s operations. As well, NAFTA’s Chapter 11 gives American corporations operating in Canada the right to claim the water sources they use in their operations."


Hm, that would seem like a federal issue to me. 

Our MP, David Tilson, however has been reluctant, nay refusing, to get involved in this issue over the past two years, stating this open pit mine is provincial jurisdiction, NOT a federal one. 

He states that if anyone provides him with PROOF as to why it would be a federal issue, he would certainly be interested.  (In other words if you do the work FOR him, he is all for it.)

Well one might think that a national water policy and food policy would be a Federal issue, but I guess not. 

I will go out on a limb here and say the only thing Mr. Tilson is interested in is getting re-elected.

I mean if HE doesn't know about NAFTA and a foreign company's right to sue the FEDERAL government, how in the hell does someone who writes a crappy blog be able to find this stuff?
